Why it matters

A sliding gate is machinery. It needs looking after.

A sliding gate moves several hundred kilograms across your entrance on a schedule set by your site. Without regular servicing, forces drift, safety devices fail quietly and the first warning is a breakdown at the entrance, or worse, an injury.

Tracked gates also need level ground kept clear of debris, because a jammed track stops the gate as surely as a failed motor.

Planned maintenance keeps the system safe to use, keeps your site accessible and gives you service records that show your insurer, your health and safety advisor and the HSE it is being kept safe.

  • Safety devices tested on every visit
  • Track, rollers and end stops checked
  • Service records held for every site you run

What a visit covers

Every service visit, end to end

Our engineers work through the whole system, not just the motor, and leave you with a written report of what was tested, what was found and what was done.

Safety devices

Safety edges, photocells and loop detectors tested, checked and realigned so the gate stops and reverses when it should.

Operator and drive

Motor and gearbox inspected, lubricated and adjusted, and the rack and pinion checked for wear and alignment, with wear parts flagged before they fail.

Track, rollers and end stops

Tracks, rollers, end stops and posts checked for alignment, wear and corrosion so the leaf runs true and the operator is not fighting it.

Control and access equipment

Control panels, intercoms, keypads, fob readers, ANPR cameras and timers tested, with firmware and settings checked against how the site uses the gate.

Emergency and fire release

Manual release, battery back-up and fire alarm interface tested so the gate opens when it must and can be freed by hand in a power cut.

Signage and documentation

Warning signs and markings checked, then a full service report issued for your compliance file.

What we maintain

Every sliding gate, whoever installed it

We take over systems from other installers and work across the leading operator manufacturers, so one contract can cover every entrance on your estate.

Tracked sliding gates

Gates that run on wheels along a track below the leaf.

Cantilever gates

Counterbalanced trackless gates on rack and pinion drives.

Operators and controls

Control boards, safety devices, intercoms, keypads, fob readers and ANPR.

Taking over and call-out

Any installer’s gates, 24/7 call-out

Whoever fitted your gates, we can take them on, and one freephone number covers faults at any hour.

Questions

Sliding gate maintenance, answered

Need new or replacement sliding gates?

We design, install and commission them, and strip out old ones.

Sliding Gate Installation
How often should a sliding gate be serviced?

It depends on how hard the gate works. High-cycle sites such as logistics yards need more frequent visits than a gate that opens a few times a day. We set the visit schedule from your risk assessment, cycle count and the manufacturer’s guidance, and write it into the contract.

Why do tracked sliding gates jam?

Tracked gates run on wheels along a track below the gate and need level ground kept clear of debris to prevent jamming. The track, rollers and end stops are checked on every service visit.

Can Sygma take over a sliding gate another company installed?

Yes. The first visit is a full survey and safety test of the existing installation. If anything falls short of current standards we tell you plainly, quote for putting it right, and take the system onto a maintenance contract from there.

What happens if the gate fails outside working hours?

Call 0800 043 6728 at any hour. Out-of-hours attendance is available for gate and barrier faults.

Is sliding gate maintenance a legal requirement?

Yes, on commercial premises. HSE guidance says owners and occupiers of commercial premises have duties under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, including keeping it maintained, and anyone who works on it must be competent and leave it safe. There is no fixed interval in law, and service records help show it is being kept safe.
