Why it matters

A powered barrier is machinery. It needs looking after.

An automated barrier works every time a vehicle comes in or goes out. Without regular servicing, forces drift, safety devices fail quietly and the first warning is a barrier stuck at the entrance, or worse, an injury.

Planned maintenance keeps the system safe to use, keeps your site accessible and gives you service records that show your insurer, your health and safety advisor and the HSE it is being kept safe.

  • Safety devices tested on every visit
  • Faults found before they stop the lane
  • Service records held for every site you run

What a visit covers

Every service visit, end to end

Our engineers work through the whole system, not just the motor, and leave you with a written report of what was tested, what was found and what was done.

Safety devices, operators and drives, the gate leaf and structure, control and access equipment, emergency and fire release, then signage and a written service report, on any gate, barrier or blocker, whoever installed it.

Questions

Automated barrier maintenance, answered

Need new or replacement automated barriers?

We design, install and commission them, and strip out old ones.

Automated Barrier Installation
How often should an automated barrier be serviced?

It depends on how hard the barrier works. A busy car park barrier needs more frequent visits than one that lifts a few times a day. We set the visit schedule from your risk assessment, cycle count and the manufacturer’s guidance, and write it into the contract.

Can Sygma take over a barrier another company installed?

Yes. The first visit is a full survey and safety test of the existing installation. If anything falls short of current standards we tell you plainly, quote for putting it right, and take the system onto a maintenance contract from there.

What happens if the barrier fails outside working hours?

Call 0800 043 6728 at any hour. Out-of-hours attendance is available for gate and barrier faults.

Do you also maintain gates, bollards and road blockers?

Yes. We take over systems from other installers and work across the leading operator manufacturers, so one contract can cover every entrance on your estate, whether that is a gate, a barrier or a blocker.

Is barrier maintenance a legal requirement?

Yes, on commercial premises. HSE guidance says owners and occupiers of commercial premises have duties under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, including keeping it maintained, and anyone who works on it must be competent and leave it safe. There is no fixed interval in law, and service records help show it is being kept safe.
