Vehicle control

Control the traffic, lane by lane

An automated barrier is an active barrier: a mechanism opens and closes it to allow authorised vehicles through. On car parks, yards and controlled entrances it can be a very successful way of controlling traffic flow and access.

Arm barriers are more affordable than hydraulic road blockers but not as secure. They act as a visual deterrent and are not ram-proof, so where vehicles must be physically stopped, rising bollards or road blockers are the answer.

Bollards and road blockers

What we install

Barriers for every lane and car park

Within our range you will find all manner of hydraulic and electro-mechanical automatic models, with articulated arm, rigid arm, top and bottom skirted, and bottom-skirted versions.

Rising arm barriers

Automatic arm barriers that lift to let authorised vehicles through controlled entrances and yards.

Car park barriers

Entry and exit barriers that control who parks on your site.

Skirted arms

Top and bottom skirted or bottom-skirted arms where pedestrians need stopping as well as vehicles.

Height barriers

Fixed and swing height barriers that keep oversized vehicles off car parks and service roads.

Access control on the barrier

Intercoms, keypads, fob readers and ANPR cameras supplied and fitted by Sygma, so the barrier opens for the right people and vehicles.

Replacements

Old or failed barriers stripped out and replaced with a new automated barrier on the same lane.

How it runs

Survey to handover, one team throughout

The engineers who survey the entrance are the ones who install, commission and then maintain it, so nothing is lost between stages.

Free site survey

We walk the entrance with you, measure the opening, check the ground and power, and talk through who and what needs to get in and out.

Design and quote

A system specified for the traffic, the ground conditions and the risk assessment, with the safety devices it needs and a fixed quote.

Installation

Barrier, safety devices and loops installed and wired by our engineers, working around your site hours. On a replacement, the old barrier is stripped out first.

Commissioning

Every safety device proven, the system handed over with its documentation and a demonstration for your team.

Maintenance

Planned servicing from day one, with 24/7 call-out from the same team.

Standards and safety

Installed to the standards powered barriers are held to

Powered barriers are classed as machinery, like powered gates, and the same safety standard, BS EN 12453, covers both.

BS EN 12453

Safety in use

Sets the force limits and safeguarding a powered gate or barrier must meet.

Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations

Machinery compliance

A powered barrier is a machine, so the regulations for machinery apply to it.

Gate Safe

Aware installer scheme

Sygma engineers work to Gate Safe guidance on safe design, installation and servicing of automated gates and barriers.

Questions

Automated barrier installation, answered

Already have automated barriers?

We service and maintain them, whoever installed them.

Automated Barrier Maintenance
How long does an automated barrier installation take?

A single arm barrier is usually a day or two on site. Lead times depend on the barrier and operator specified.

Will an arm barrier stop a vehicle?

No. An arm barrier acts as a visual deterrent and is not ram-proof. Where vehicles must be physically stopped, rising bollards or road blockers are the stronger option.

How is the barrier raised?

We supply and fit the access control that raises it: intercoms, keypads, fob readers and ANPR cameras, set up around who and what needs to get in and out.

Can you replace our existing barrier?

Yes. We strip out the old barrier and install a new automated barrier in its place, surveyed, specified and commissioned the same way as a new installation.

Can barriers work with our gates, CCTV and access control?

Yes. Gates, barriers and bollards can be integrated with access control systems, CCTV, intruder alarms and intercom systems to create a fully joined up perimeter security solution.
