Gate and barrier maintenance
Planned maintenance, safety testing and 24/7 call-out for automated gates, vehicle barriers, bollards and road blockers on commercial sites across the UK. Whoever installed them.
Gate Safe aware installer. SSAIB certified.
Why it matters
An automated gate or barrier moves several hundred kilograms on a schedule set by your site. Without regular servicing, forces drift, safety devices fail quietly and the first warning is a breakdown at the entrance, or worse, an injury.
Planned maintenance keeps the system safe to use, keeps your site accessible and gives you service records that show your insurer, your health and safety advisor and the HSE it is being kept safe.

Standards and safety
Powered gates and barriers are classed as machinery. The duty to keep them safe sits with the site owner or occupier, and these are the documents that define what safe looks like.
Safety in use
Sets the force limits and safeguarding a powered gate must meet.
Mechanical safety and maintenance
Cover the mechanical requirements of the gate and the installation, use and maintenance information that should sit behind it.
Machinery compliance
A powered gate is a machine. Changes to operators, controls or safety devices are made so the system still meets its original compliance.
Workplace equipment
Requires work equipment to be maintained in a safe condition and inspected where deterioration could create danger. A planned service programme is how you meet that duty.
Maintenance by competent people
The Health and Safety Executive says owners and occupiers of commercial premises must keep powered gates maintained, that anyone working on them must be competent, and that service records help show a gate is being kept safe.
Aware installer scheme
Sygma engineers work to Gate Safe guidance on safe design, installation and servicing of automated gates and barriers.
What a visit covers
Our engineers work through the whole system, not just the motor, and leave you with a written report of what was tested, what was found and what was done.
Safety edges, photocells and loop detectors tested, checked and realigned so the gate stops and reverses when it should.
Motors, gearboxes, hydraulic rams and arm mechanisms inspected, lubricated and adjusted, with wear parts flagged before they fail.
Hinges, tracks, rollers, end stops and posts checked for alignment, wear and corrosion so the leaf runs true and the operator is not fighting it.
Control panels, intercoms, keypads, fob readers, ANPR cameras and timers tested, with firmware and settings checked against how the site uses the gate.
Manual release, battery back-up and fire alarm interface tested so the gate opens when it must and can be freed by hand in a power cut.
Warning signs and markings checked, then a full service report issued for your compliance file.
What we maintain
We take over systems from other installers and work across the leading operator manufacturers, so one contract can cover every entrance on your estate.
Single and double leaf, with ram and articulated arm operators.
Automatic gate maintenanceTracked and trackless gates on rack and pinion drives.
Sliding gate maintenanceCar parks, yards and controlled entrances, manual or automatic.
Automated barrier maintenanceHydraulic and electro-mechanical rising bollards and blockers, including fire-system interfaces.
Control boards, safety devices, intercoms, keypads, fob readers and ANPR.
High-cycle gates on sites that run around the clock.

Tell us what you have on site and we will survey it, test it and quote for the maintenance that fits.
Questions
It depends on how hard the gate works. High-cycle sites such as logistics yards or car parks need more frequent visits than a gate that opens a few times a day. We set the visit schedule from your risk assessment, cycle count and the manufacturer’s guidance, and write it into the contract.
Yes, on commercial premises. HSE guidance says owners and occupiers of commercial premises have duties under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, including keeping the gate maintained, and anyone who works on it must be competent and leave it safe. There is no fixed interval in law, which is why we set the schedule from your risk assessment, cycle count and the manufacturer’s guidance.
Yes. The first visit is a full survey and safety test of the existing installation. If anything falls short of current standards we tell you plainly, quote for putting it right, and take the system onto a maintenance contract from there.
Call 0800 043 6728 at any hour. Out-of-hours attendance is available for gate and barrier faults.
Yes. Intercoms, keypads, fob and card readers, ANPR cameras and timers are part of the gate system and are tested on every visit. Where a site also has CCTV or an intruder alarm with Sygma, the same engineer can cover all of it under one contract.
