Why sliding

The gate for entrances where space is tight

Sliding gates are an ideal solution where space is limited and a swing gate is not practical. The leaf runs across the opening instead of swinging into the site or the road.

They suit wide openings and busy entrances, and they operate on either a tracked or a cantilever system.

Two systems

Tracked or cantilever

Tracked sliding gates

Run on wheels along a track below the gate. They need level ground, kept clear of debris to prevent jamming.

Cantilever gates

Counterbalanced so they do not need a track across the opening, which makes them a lower maintenance option.

Both are driven by rack and pinion operators. The free site survey looks at your ground and opening and recommends the right one.

What we install

The whole entrance, installed by one team

Gate and operator

Tracked or cantilever leaf on a rack and pinion operator, specified for the opening and the traffic.

Safety devices

Safety edges, photocells and loops installed and wired so the gate stops and reverses when it should.

Access control on the gate

Intercoms, keypads, fob readers and ANPR cameras supplied and fitted by Sygma, so the gate opens for the right people and vehicles.

Replacements

Old or failed gates stripped out and replaced with a new sliding gate system on the same entrance.

How it runs

Survey to handover, one team throughout

The engineers who survey the entrance are the ones who install, commission and then maintain it, so nothing is lost between stages.

Free site survey

We walk the entrance with you, measure the opening, check the ground and power, and talk through who and what needs to get in and out.

Design and quote

A system specified for the traffic, the ground conditions and the risk assessment, with the safety devices it needs and a fixed quote.

Installation

Posts, operators, safety edges, photocells and loops installed and wired by our engineers, working around your site hours. On a replacement, the old gate is stripped out first.

Commissioning

Every safety device proven, the system handed over with its documentation and a demonstration for your team.

Maintenance

Planned servicing from day one, with 24/7 call-out from the same team.

Standards and safety

Installed to the standards powered gates are held to

Every gate is CE marked and installed to BS EN 12978 and BS EN 12453, with the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations and Gate Safe guidance behind the design.

BS EN 12453 and BS EN 12978

Safety in use

Set the force limits, safeguarding and safety devices a powered gate must meet.

Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations

Machinery compliance

A powered gate is a machine, so the regulations for machinery apply to it.

Gate Safe

Aware installer scheme

Sygma engineers work to Gate Safe guidance on safe design, installation and servicing of automated gates and barriers.

Questions

Sliding gate installation, answered

Already have sliding gates?

We service and maintain them, whoever installed them.

Sliding Gate Maintenance
How long does a sliding gate installation take?

Sliding gates need groundworks, so they take longer than a swing gate on existing posts, which is usually a day or two on site. Lead times depend on the operators and gate leaves specified.

Tracked or cantilever: which sliding gate is better?

A tracked gate runs on a track below the gate and needs level ground kept clear of debris. A cantilever gate is counterbalanced and does not need a track, which makes it a lower maintenance option. The survey looks at your ground and opening and recommends one.

Can you replace our existing gate with a sliding gate?

Yes. We strip out the old gate and install a new sliding gate system in its place, surveyed, specified and commissioned the same way as a new installation.

How will the sliding gate be opened?

We supply and fit the access control that opens it: intercoms, keypads, fob readers and ANPR cameras, set up around who and what needs to get in and out.

Which standards do your sliding gates meet?

Every gate is CE marked and installed to BS EN 12978 and BS EN 12453, with the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations and Gate Safe guidance behind the design.
