Remote CCTV Monitoring is a service designed to closely monitor and action any emergency services response where necessary. Remote CCTV Monitoring is event triggered and uses an internet connection to take the images your CCTV cameras are picking up in real time, and send them to an external remote monitoring station. These remote monitoring stations are specifically designed to respond rapidly to any suspicious activity, protecting your business or property from criminal damage.
Remote monitoring solution links your CCTV system directly to a remote monitoring station (RVRC), allowing round-the-clock surveillance and monitoring of your premises. Once the system is set up, images are transmitted from the CCTV cameras to the RVRC. Remote CCTV Monitoring gives your security cameras the ability to be moved and manipulated remotely. Within seconds of your system being triggered, a camera will focus automatically on the security threat or suspicious activity. Simultaneously the system will transmit real-time images from the camera to the RVRC.
At the RVRC, specially trained operators can control the camera’s position to identify an intruder who has activated the system. If there has been a security breach, the operator will assess the situation and take the appropriate action, such as notifying the police and/or the designated key holder.
Due to a high number of false alarms, emergency services do not always respond immediately to security alarms. However, with a remote CCTV system, false alarms are eliminated as security breaches are visually verified by an operator before they contact the emergency services. Once an RVRC operator has confirmed the breach, they notify the emergency services, which leads to an immediate response.
RVRC operators can also activate a live audio warning to potential attackers, alerting them that the police are on the way. In most cases, an audio warning will prevent criminal activity or damage to your property before it happens.
All staff are trained and licensed by the SIA (Security Industry Authority), the regulator of the private security industry in the United Kingdom, to ensure that your privacy is protected and the highest standards are maintained.

All Sygma monitored solutions are designed to comply with the British Standard 8418 – an outline of which can be found below.
BS8418 is the standard for detector-activated remotely monitored CCTV systems in the UK. It was first published in 2003 and soon became endorsed by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) in their security systems policy and as such is the only recognised way of obtaining a Police URN for such CCTV systems.
BS8418 has undergone a review, which is a formal procedure that occurs every five years for a British Standard. This review is conducted with industry key stakeholders, which include BSIA, and takes account of advances in technology, experiences gained in the application of the standard and other influencing factors to make it a more useable and beneficial standard.
This user guide aims to provide you with an insight into the benefits of a remotely monitored detector activate CCTV system and highlights the considerations you should make prior.

Frequently Asked Questions About Remote CCTV Monitoring Systems
Remote CCTV monitoring connects your on-site cameras to a dedicated Remote Video Response Centre (RVRC) via an internet connection. When your system is triggered, trained operators receive real-time footage, visually verify the threat, and take immediate action, including contacting the police or designated keyholders where necessary.
A standard CCTV system records footage for review after an incident. Remote CCTV monitoring is proactive. SIA-licensed operators watch your premises in real time, respond to alerts as they happen, and contact emergency services with verified evidence, resulting in a faster, prioritised police response.
Yes. All Sygma remote monitoring solutions are designed to comply with BS8418, the British Standard for detector-activated remotely monitored CCTV systems. This is the only recognised standard for obtaining a Police Unique Reference Number (URN) for monitored CCTV systems in the UK.
Remote CCTV monitoring is significantly more cost-effective than employing a physical security guard. There is no need for a staffed on-site control room, no shift patterns to manage, and no associated employment costs, making it a smart, scalable solution for businesses of all sizes without compromising on the level of protection.
Post-installation support includes routine maintenance checks, system health monitoring, troubleshooting, and remote or on-site assistance. Regular servicing ensures your cameras, connection, and monitoring station integration remain fully operational and compliant as your security needs evolve.
