Are Wireless Fire Systems Safe?
Like with anything these days, wireless fire systems have been around the block once or twice – and had their fair share of speed bumps along the way. Since their inception in the mid 80’s, they have been slowly building traction, and with the more recent leaps made in radio technology, they have really started to take off in popularity.
But the big question that many consumers still have is “are they really safe?” In short, yes, they are – but we won’t leave you on the edge of your seat with such a cliff hanger, so here’s a brief explanation as to why.
A wireless fire detection and alarm system works in much the same way as a hard-wired alarm system in that you still have the control panel, detection devices, manual call points and alarms. The only difference being that communication between devices is via radio signals rather than electrical signals. With the vast improvements in radio and mobile signal connection, this has become as reliable as cabling can ever be within a building – not to mention the intelligent function of all radio devices which will allow the panel to notify you of any faults as soon as they occur.
With their increasing popularity, British Standards have even incorporated sections into the codes of practise (BS5839-1:2017 & EN54-25) to provide guidance in to users to ensure their safe install and use.
So there you have it…
